IEP-Section 504 Audio Accommodations

Follow

ALL In Learning has two Audio Accommodation features:

  • Automatic Text-To-Speech
  • Adding Custom Audio Recordings Into An Assessment

Setting the IEP-504 Demographic Tag

Some SMSs don't sync this demographic setting into ALL In Learning, so someone may need to set it manually. Here are steps for either a teacher or an admin to check and add this setting:

Steps for Teachers to set the IEP-504 tag:

Click the Classes tab, select the class, and click the student's demographics column.

Steps for Admins to set the IEP-504 tag:

Go to the Administration tab, choose Students, search for the student, click "Add..." in the demographics column, select the IEP-504 tag, then click Save.

Optionally, bypass the IEP-504-only restriction:
This will allow all students to access the accommodation features for a given assessment. When activating or distributing the assessment,  select "No" for the setting that says "Restrict 'Text to Speech' audio accommodation to only IEP accommodated students?"

Text-to-Speech Feature

IEP-504 students will automatically be able to click-and-drag text in an assessment to highlight it and immediately hear it read aloud.

Note: Text to Speech only works on actual text - not text that is part of an image.

Students can control the voice style and speed by clicking the Text to Speech button. Note: We recommend Google Chrome for the biggest selection of voice styles.

Manually Add Custom Audio Files to an Assessment

Eligible students will be able to play audio files that the assessment author inserted into the assessment.

Adding one audio file to the whole assessment:

With this technique, students will see the same audio file throughout the assessment and can play/pause as they navigate to different questions.

  1. Click on the main assessment block. This will show you the list of questions and answers and the points assigned to each of them.

  2. Click on the button to “Add Audio to All Slides”Screenshot 2024-05-31 141715.jpg

  3. You can upload your audio file directly (.mp3 or .ogg format) or enter a URL address where your audio file is hosted. On this same screen, you can choose to restrict the audio option to your IEP-Section 504 students. Click OK when finished.
  4. You'll then see the “Master Slide” where you can you can delete the audio file or move the audio box or delete the file. Students will see the audio box at the bottom of the slide where it will not interfere with the slide or question and answer content.

  5. You can now continue to author/edit the assessment and this audio file will be continually visible to students throughout the assessment.

Adding an audio file for an individual question:

With this option, students will only be able to access the audio file when viewing the specific question.

  1. Click on the question slide on the left, click “Insert” menu, and then select “Audio.”

  2. Upload your audio file directly (.mp3 or .ogg format) or enter a URL address if your file is hosted. You can also choose to restrict the audio option to IEP-Section 504 students. Click OK when finished.
  3. You can move the audio box around the slide, and this might be helpful for editing your assessment, but the student will see it be at the bottom of the slide where it will not interfere with the slide or question and answer content.

Special steps to delete the "whole assessment" audio file from the Master Slide:

If you need to delete an audio file and it was uploaded for the whole assessment, you’ll need to delete it from the Master Slide. Click on View from the menu options, and then click on Master Slide.

From here you can move the audio box to a different part of the slide if needed, or highlight the audio box and then click on Edit and Clear.

If you need to delete an audio file and it was uploaded to a specific slide, click on the individual slide, then highlight the audio box, click on Edit from the menu options, then on Clear.
